Where the Fight to Protect Property Rights Goes in 2025

The American Property Owners Alliance (APOA) has quickly become a leading advocate for property rights since its launch in 2020. With four years of experience, the organization is poised to drive significant progress for property owners in 2025 and beyond.

Housing Concerns Dominate National Discussion

Housing affordability and availability remain critical issues heading into 2025, as voters ranked them among their top concerns during the 2024 election. Pre-election polling revealed nearly 70% of Americans were “very concerned” about housing costs, with many citing the issue as a deciding factor at the polls.

The APOA, one of the nation’s only nonprofit groups dedicated exclusively to advancing private property rights, aims to use this heightened awareness to push for action. Operating across party lines, the organization promotes policies that protect property owners and help Americans build generational wealth through homeownership.

“Housing is a pressing issue, and we need practical, bipartisan solutions to tackle affordability and sustainability,” says APOA Executive Director Colin Allen.

Voices from the Community Shape Advocacy

The APOA engages with homeowners nationwide to understand how housing challenges impact their lives. These insights guide its policy efforts and advocacy campaigns.

“High mortgage rates, rising property insurance premiums, and growing costs of living have left us trapped in our starter home,” said a Florida homeowner.

“In my home, multiple family members live together because housing and rental prices are too high for them to afford on their own,” shared a homeowner in Washington state.

Building Grassroots Power
The APOA has grown into a powerhouse since its launch. With a network of over 10 million homeowners, tens of thousands of social media followers, and more than 45,000 active advocates, the organization amplifies homeowner voices in Washington.

Through its grassroots approach, the APOA drives meaningful action. For example, a recent campaign with social media influencers rallied support for the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, generating 5,000 letters to Congress in a single month.

Coalition Partnerships Expand Reach

To strengthen its advocacy, the APOA provides grants to organizations that promote homeownership and property rights. Since 2020, it has supported groups across the political spectrum, including the American Action Network, House Majority Forward, the National Black Empowerment Council (NBEC), and others.

“Our grant program helps build coalitions and drive change on key issues like affordable housing and property insurance,” says Allen.

The APOA’s partnerships extend beyond funding. By collaborating with grassroots organizations, the alliance hosts education events nationwide. In partnership with NBEC, the APOA organized expert panels in cities like Dallas and Charlotte to address the racial homeownership gap and provide guidance on building generational wealth.

“These events empower individuals with the knowledge they need to achieve homeownership and secure their financial futures,” says NBEC President and CEO Darius Jones.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The APOA is already preparing for its next phase of advocacy. In December, the alliance will host an event in Little Rock, Ark., to continue its outreach and education efforts.

Heading into the new year, the APOA plans to focus on key legislative priorities, including reauthorizing the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, advancing the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, and supporting the More Homes on the Market Act.

“The dream of homeownership is still alive, and families are eager to learn how to achieve it,” Allen says. “Our mission is to ensure every American has access to the tools and policies needed to make that dream a reality.”
