Prior to joining Davidovich Stone Law Group, LLP, Carissa N. Horowitz was counsel at Beall & Burkhardt, APC, a small boutique law firm , where she has honed her expertise in bankruptcy law and real estate following her graduation from law school. Carissa also completed an externship under the Honorable Robin Riblet at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Santa Barbara during her final semester in law school.

During her time at Beall & Burkhardt, APC, Ms. Horowitz represented both consumer and business debtors in Chapter 7, 11, 12, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases, as well as creditors and Chapter 7 trustees. Her practice also involved advising clients on real estate matters, including lease transactions, secured financing, short sales, and foreclosures.

In both areas, Carissa conducted extensive legal research, drafted pleadings, and argued motions that addressed a variety of substantive and procedural issues in U.S. Bankruptcy and state courts. As Counsel to consumers, creditors, and Chapter 7 Trustees in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Carissa tackled challenging issues such as payments, reduction and negotiation of debts, denial of discharge, discharge of debts, asset recovery, liquidation, and preferential and fraudulent transfers. Her efforts in representing Chapter 7 Trustees led to significant asset recovery and successful outcomes in reducing claims and denying debtor discharges.

In the realm of real estate law, Carissa built a robust portfolio of personal clients and relationships with multiple property management firms alongside numerous corporate and individual landlords. Her expertise encompasses complex issues arising from landlord-tenant disputes, enforcement of judgments, Homeowner Association (HOA) conflicts, and breaches of contracts.

Carissa has successfully facilitated litigation concerning purchase agreements, easement disputes, and quiet title actions, as well as unlawful detainer actions for both commercial and residential property owners.

 Beyond her advocacy work, Carissa is a committed volunteer and active participant in the legal community. She dedicates her time as a regular volunteer at the legal aid clinic for consumer debtors, providing essential support to those in need. Outside of work, you can find Carissa indulging in her other love of cycling and yoga. A dedicated and passionate cyclist, she enjoys being part of local cycling teams and clubs, and long endurance events.
